This privacy policy explains what data dont-trust-verify.com ("the site," "we," "I") collects about you, how it is used, and your rights over that data. The site is operated by an independent solo developer.
What data we collect
On most pages: essentially nothing about you personally
The vast majority of the site's tools run entirely in your browser. No input you type into a calculator, decoder, or validator is sent to any server. The computation happens locally on your device. There are no accounts, no login, and no persistent user profiles.
On tool pages, we use localStorage in your browser to save your preferences — for example, your preferred fiat currency in the Sats Converter. This data never leaves your device. You can clear it by clearing your browser's site data for dont-trust-verify.com.
Contact form submissions
If you submit the contact form at /contact, we collect: your name (as you enter it), your email address, your message text, and the timestamp of submission. This data is written to a Firestore database hosted by Google (Firebase). We use it solely to respond to your message. We do not share this data with third parties for marketing. We retain it until you request deletion.
Third-party services
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are visited, which tools are used, and where traffic comes from. We have configured GA4 with IP anonymization enabled. We do not use User-ID or any other cross-site identifier. GA4 sets cookies in your browser (see the Cookies section below). Google's privacy policy governs how Google processes this data: policies.google.com/privacy.
Google AdSense & DoubleClick
After receiving AdSense approval, this site will display Google ads. Google — as a third-party vendor — uses cookies to serve ads on this site, including the DoubleClick DART cookie, which enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. AdSense and DoubleClick also use cookies and web beacons to measure ad performance.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting adssettings.google.com (the Google Ad Settings page), or opt out of third-party DART cookies by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy. You can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Firebase Hosting
The site is hosted on Firebase Hosting (Google infrastructure). Firebase Hosting logs include standard server-side data: IP address, request path, user agent, and timestamp. These logs are retained by Google according to Google Cloud's data retention policies. We do not access these logs for individual user tracking.
CoinGecko and mempool.space
Several tools fetch live data (Bitcoin price, mempool fee estimates) directly from CoinGecko and mempool.space APIs. These requests are made from your browser, not from our server. Your browser's IP address will be visible to those services when it makes the request. Their respective privacy policies apply: coingecko.com/en/privacy and mempool.space/privacy-policy.
Cookies
We set or allow the following cookies:
- Google Analytics 4 cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) — analytics, expire after 2 years. - Google AdSense & DoubleClick cookies (
__gads,__gpi, DART) — served by Google for advertising purposes after AdSense approval. Duration varies (typically 13 months).
We do not set any other tracking cookies. Tool preferences stored in localStorage are not cookies and are not transmitted to any server.
Your rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have rights over your personal data:
- Access — you can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Deletion — you can request that we delete your data from Firebase (contact form submissions). Email contact@dont-trust-verify.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request."
- Correction — you can request correction of inaccurate data.
- Objection — you can object to processing where we rely on legitimate interest.
For GA4 and AdSense data held by Google, exercise your rights directly through Google's privacy controls at myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy.
Children
This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted data through the contact form, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as the site's features evolve (for example, when AdSense is approved or when new data integrations are added). The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Material changes will be noted in a visible update notice.
